Walden and Rodgers on Senate Commerce Committee Advancing NHTSA and CPSC Nominations

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 5, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following joint statement on the Senate Commerce Committee vote to advance the nomination of Heidi King to be administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Hon. Ann Marie Buerkle to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC).

“We are pleased the Senate Commerce Committee advanced two nominations that will enhance the overall safety of consumers. Ms. King’s strong and continued leadership at NHTSA will increase driving safety and this vote brings us closer to implementing strong rules for self-driving cars and new strategies to combat impaired driving. Ms. Buerkle’s commitment to children and families through her many roles in public service, and at the Commission since 2013, has been steadfast both in achieving consumer product safety goals and keeping unsafe products out of reach of consumers. Strong and reliable leadership at both NHTSA and the CPSC is critical for consumers. We urge the Senate to continue to speedily move forward with these nominations and confirm Ms. King and Ms. Buerkle."
