E&C Republican Leader Greg Walden’s Statement on Susan Brooks

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 14, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) made the following statement on the retirement of Rep. Susan W. Brooks. Rep. Brooks serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is a member of the Communications and Technology, the Health, and the Oversight and Investigations subcommittees.

“Susan Brooks is a respected colleague and dear friend. I’ve had the pleasure of serving with her on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where I’ve known Susan as a serious thinker and an effective legislator. We’ve worked on mental health and substance abuse issues together - passing the largest Congressional effort to combat a drug epidemic in our nation’s history, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. A former prosecutor, she was instrumental in investigating and exposing the sex abuse scandal by USA Gymnastics, leading to passage of legislation to prevent this horror from occurring again. Most recently, Susan has been dogged in passing key legislation - which I hope the President will soon sign - to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response programs. Through any challenge, Susan is kind, studied, and focused. In fact, across Congress that is her reputation, which is why she will be missed by many.

“For the next year and a half, I know Susan will remain dedicated to serving Hoosiers and the American people. I wish Susan, her husband David, and her family the very best."
