Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) announced today that the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, February 5, on e-cigarette use in the United States. Testimony will be provided by executives from each of the five manufacturers that collectively comprise approximately 97 percent of the U.S. market: Fontem U.S.; Japan Tobacco International, U.S. (Logic); JUUL Labs, Inc.; NJOY, LLC; and Reynolds American Inc.
“The Trump Administration’s flavor ban retreat allows menthol and many other flavored e-cigarette products to continue to be disseminated, marketed and used, while consumers remain in the dark on the health implications and a new generation of young people is lured into a lifetime of nicotine addiction," Pallone and DeGette said. “This hearing will give the American public the opportunity to hear directly from the five largest e-cigarette companies on their marketing practices, the public health implications of their products and their responsibility in addressing the nation’s youth vaping epidemic."
Additional details will be announced the week prior to the hearing.
