Health Subcommittee to Hold Legislative Hearing on the Women’s Health Protection Act

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 5, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 Rayburn House Office Building on H.R. 2975, the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2019. The hearing is entitled, “Protecting Women’s Access to Reproductive Health Care."

“States and local governments have passed hundreds of bans and restrictions that make access to reproductive health care services, including abortion, increasingly difficult and, in some cases, impossible to obtain," Pallone and Eshoo said. “These medically unnecessary barriers to care are particularly harmful to people of color, those struggling to make ends meet, and people living in rural or medically underserved areas. Next week, the Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing on legislation that ensures the constitutional right to access abortion is a reality for all people, no matter where they live in the United States."

Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, bill, witness list, testimony and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
