Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, March 4, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building on the proliferation of deceptive and dangerous products on online marketplaces. The hearing is entitled, “Buyer Beware: Fake and Unsafe Products on Online Marketplaces."
“Counterfeit goods, often boosted by fake reviews and deceptive tactics, are widely available on online marketplaces. Many of these products are unsafe and pose real risks to consumer health and safety," said Pallone and Schakowsky. “Online platforms are failing consumers by making it difficult to identify legitimate goods and refusing to crack down on unscrupulous sellers. At this hearing, we’ll push platforms to do more and hear from stakeholders who are working to protect consumers from these unsafe products."
