Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, March 4, at 10:30 am in room 2322 Rayburn House Office Building on recycling and waste management in the United States, including its impacts on climate and the environment. The hearing is entitled, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reform: Addressing America’s Plastic Waste Crisis."
“Communities across America are struggling to manage their waste as they grapple with the consequences of an outdated recycling system. It’s time for the United States to rethink not only how we manage our waste, but how to minimize the amount of waste we generate in the first place," said Pallone and Tonko. “We need to develop legislative solutions that reduce our reliance on single-use materials, improve our recycling infrastructure and promote the innovative use and reuse of materials. Doing so will not only protect public health and the environment, but also drive investment in new materials and manufacturing."
