E&C Republican Leader Statement on Nuclear Energy Strategy

Washington, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader Fred Upton (R-MI), and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Republican Leader John Shimkus (R-IL) released the following statement on President Trump’s Strategy to Restore American Nuclear Energy Leadership.

“Now more than ever, American leadership matters. Nuclear innovation is how we can assure our national security, energy security, and economic growth, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We welcome the release of this strategy to restore American nuclear technological leadership. Strengthening our domestic nuclear industry and its infrastructure will provide economic, environmental, and security benefits for Americans and our allies for decades to come. We look forward to working with the Administration on these policy recommendations to ensure that America leads on nuclear through the 21st Century," Walden, Upton, and Shimkus said.

Today, the Department of Energy released a report from the United States Nuclear Fuel Working Group titled “Restoring America’s Competitive Nuclear Energy Advantage: A Strategy to assure U.S. National Security."
