Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Thursday, July 9, at 12 pm (EDT) entitled “Consumers Beware: Increased Risks During the COVID-19 Pandemic."
“At a time when many Americans are struggling, swindlers and other bad actors are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to prey upon consumers. Counterfeit personal protection equipment, price-gouging and COVID scams threaten the health, safety and financial well-being of victims," said Pallone and Schakowsky. “Much more must be done to protect vulnerable Americans from fraud and dangerous products. We look forward to exploring the risks consumers face and the steps that can be taken to protect Americans during the pandemic."
