Washington, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) and incoming Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader for the 117th Congress Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on the recent public and private sector hack affecting the U.S. government, critical infrastructure entities, and private sector organizations.
“The foreign-state attack on U.S. public and private computer networks is unprecedented in scope and consequence. It is clear America and our allies must jointly hold accountable these cyber criminals. Moreover, the U.S. Government and those affected in the private sector will need to urgently determine the scope of the infiltration and damage, replace servers and software, and finally put in place technology that can more effectively discover and prevent these sorts of attacks.
“We know foreign-state actors are constantly trying to steal the intellectual property of the scientists who are working on COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. We must prevent them at every turn and stop them from any attempts to disrupt the production or distribution supply chains.
“While we continue to be briefed on the full size, scale, and scope of this cyber attack, we look forward to working with our colleagues in Congress, the administration, and the private sector to secure our networks," said Walden and Rodgers.
