Energy and Commerce Committee Announces Hearing on Legislation to Strengthen the Affordable Care Act

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on March 16, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a fully remote legislative hearing on Tuesday, March 23, at 11 a.m. (EDT) on legislation to strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The hearing is entitled, “Building on the ACA: Legislation to Expand Health Coverage and Lower Costs."

“When President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law last week, he initiated the largest expansion of health care coverage in more than a decade," Pallone and Eshoo said. “Under this historic legislation, millions of Americans will gain coverage and see the cost of their monthly insurance premiums go down, but there is still more work to be done. Next week, on the 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act’s enactment, the Health Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on proposals to build on that progress by expanding access to quality, affordable health care for the people."

This hearing will be conducted remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.

Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witnesses, testimony, legislation, and a live webcast will be posted HERE as they become available.
