Washington, D.C. - In a GOP Leadership press conference today, Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) delivered remarks about how President Joe Biden’s energy crisis will get worse under the tax and spending spree.
Her remarks as prepared for delivery:
“This radical tax and spending spree will make President Biden’s energy and inflation crisis worse.
“I think about a man from Deer Park, Washington, who drives his own truck to provide for his family. Because of higher gas prices and inflation he doesn’t know what his future holds.
“Under this reckless spending spree, we know the answer because it shuts down American energy. Just like our Keystone pipeline workers, he loses his job.
“Unlike President Biden’s Secretary of Energy, he’s not laughing or singing about this. His livelihood is gone.
“I was also just speaking with someone at the airport who told me, he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to afford to heat his home. Families like his could be paying 30% more this winter for their natural gas bills. Democrats want to add a tax hike on natural gas on top of this.
“The radical tax and spending spree will accelerate the inflation crisis and energy crisis. It’s NOT the will of the American people.
“It is command and control by the federal government - for how much we pay for gas. How we power our lights. How we heat our homes - or maybe not heat our homes because of surging costs. The size of our homes. Where we live. The cars we drive. How we get to work. How we socialize with one another. How we worship. How our children are educated. Our employment. Our speech. Our medical care. Our retirement. How we communicate and what we think.
“We reject it because socialism controls. Freedom creates! Coming out of COVID, let’s unleash American innovation and entrepreneurship. Let’s return power to the people and restore the Promise of America."
