RESCHEDULED: E&C Announces Legislative Hearing on Pipeline Reliability Bill

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Nov. 30, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) announced today that the Energy Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m. (EST) in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Securing our Energy Infrastructure: Legislation to Enhance Pipeline Reliability."

“From the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack to the winter storm that devastated Texas’s natural gas infrastructure, it has never been clearer that ensuring the reliability of our nation’s pipeline system is both necessary and urgent," said Pallone and Rush. “It’s time we face this challenge head-on and consider legislation to create a new entity charged with developing enforceable pipeline reliability standards, including cybersecurity, just as we have long had for the electric sector. We look forward to discussing this critical topic with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Richard Glick and Department of Energy Deputy Secretary David Turk next week."

This will be a hybrid hearing that includes both in person and remote member attendance via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the proceedings via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.

The Committee strongly recommends that members of the media view the proceedings remotely. The Capitol and House Office Buildings currently have restricted access. Seating in the Committee room for credentialed media is very limited. Media must RSVP to their respective press gallery no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18.
