BENTON, IL. - Stephen R. Wigginton, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that on July 7, 2011, a federal grand jury sitting in Benton, IL, returned an indictment charging Antwon Lasean Brooks, 32, of Chicago, IL, with a single count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin.

The indictment alleges that on June 28, 2011, Brooks possessed 100 grams or more, but less than one kilogram, of heroin, with the intention of distributing it. If convicted, Brooks faces a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment and a maximum sentence of forty years in prison, a $5,000,000 fine, not less than four years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.

Evidence supporting the indictment was obtained in an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Collinsville, Ill., Police Department.
