Federal and state labor inspectors in Mexico will benefit from up to $12 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to help enforce the country’s 2019 labor law reform.

The funding will focus on helping federal and state labor inspectors improve labor law enforcement primarily in five northern states. It will help improve the administration of inspections and with inspectors’ engagement with supply chain actors regarding legal labor requirements.

“As part of its labor reform, the Government of Mexico has highlighted the importance of providing labor inspectors with the resources and training needed to ensure that employers comply with updated regulations and that workers’ rights are being respected,” the Department of Labor said.

The funding aligns with U.S. obligations in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The DOL said the reform increases the importance of providing labor inspectors with the resources and training needed to make sure that employers comply with updated regulations and that workers’ rights are being respected.

The project will align with Mexico's landmark labor law reform that began in 2019.
