Rep. John Kline (R-MN), Senior Republican on the Education and Labor Committee, issued the following statement today regarding the Obama Administration’s summary of the latest proposal for a government takeover of health care - a plan modeled on the legislation crafted behind closed doors by House and Senate Democrats.
“Just days before a supposedly bipartisan health care negotiation, President Obama has tipped his hand - and the cards he’s holding come from the same partisan deck used by Democrats in the House and Senate. Rather than hitting the reset button and coming to the negotiating table with a blank sheet of paper, the Obama Administration has cobbled together a complex and costly plan that would reshape one-sixth of our economy and upend the way Americans get health care - a prospect the American people have already rejected.
“Although this week’s health care summit has been billed as a good faith effort to reach bipartisan agreement on health care reform, it appears the Administration is attempting to dictate the outcome before negotiations even begin. This is particularly disappointing for American families and small businesses who will suffer the consequences of higher taxes and new federal mandates under a big government takeover of health care."
