House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) issued the following statement after the Department of Education announced a new plan to offer states another round of waivers from K-12 education law:
More waivers and bureaucratic rigmarole can’t address the challenges facing our nation’s schools. Students and families deserve a better law, and that’s exactly what leaders in the House and Senate are working toward. Tomorrow the House Education and the Workforce Committee will consider the Student Success Act, legislation to empower parents, support more effective teachers, restore local control, and reduce federal intrusion in the classroom. The bill takes an important step forward in the long-overdue effort to reform our education system, and I look forward to bringing it to the House floor in the coming weeks.
