***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Subcommittee to Examine Bill to Protect Health Care Providers from Executive Overreach

The following was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on March 11, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

On Thursday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m., the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, chaired by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), will hold a hearing on the Protecting Health Care Providers from Increased Administrative Burdens Act (H.R. 3633). The hearing will take place in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

H.R. 3633 would prevent the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) from continuing its unprecedented attempts to exert jurisdiction over health care providers. The OFCCP enforces affirmative action and nondiscrimination employment policies affecting federal contractors. However, the office has recently attempted to expand its jurisdiction to include health care providers on grounds that these providers have contractual relationships with federal health care programs. Health care providers - already subject to nondiscrimination laws - have expressed concerns that OFCCP’s efforts will create significant and unnecessary paperwork, raising administrative costs and restricting access to care.

Thursday’s hearing will provide members an opportunity to examine legislation addressing OFCCP’s recent attempts to target health providers. To learn more about the hearing, visit /hearings.
