Today, Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), released the following statement after U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue announced new child nutrition program flexibilities, including sodium reduction in school-offered meals:

“Millions of American families depend on school meals as a reliable source of nutrition for their children. The child nutrition rule announced today by Secretary Perdue offers a clear pathway for schools to provide nutritious meals to school-aged children.

“Menu and meal planning can present unique challenges for America’s schools, and as the Republican Leader of the committee with jurisdiction over school lunch and child nutrition programs, I applaud Secretary Perdue for his commitment to ensuring school meals are healthy options students want to eat."
