Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) spoke at the Independent Women’s Forum rally titled, “Government Is Not A Co-Parent." She discussed the importance of standing against the left’s attempt to silence parents, especially in light of the Biden administration’s DOJ taskforce dedicated to intimidating parent participation at school board meetings.
Below are key excerpts from Rep. Foxx’s remarks (as prepared for delivery):
“Republicans on the Education Committee are dedicated to making sure that the First Amendment rights of parents are protected.
…
“While the left has been focused on infusing school curriculum with progressive dogmas, our children have been falling more and more behind academically-especially during the pandemic.
…
“When policies stop serving students, they must be re-evaluated. Blindly trusting those in charge is no longer an option. Parents must have a say.
“Parental rights are non-negotiable. Americans should never be forced to relinquish their parental rights to the government-whether that involves personal medical decisions or what their kids learn in school. Our country is supposed to be a self-governed republic, not a nanny state.
“We can no longer pretend that bureaucrats in Washington, politicians who take money from teachers unions, or even school boards will put our children first. Only parents can be trusted to make children the top priority.
…
We are ready for a new era in education, one that will better prepare our children for the future and teach them how to be citizens of this great republic."
