Denham to Lead Hearing on Amtrak's 2014 Budget Request

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on April 9, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

Amtrak’s 2014 budget request will be the focus of a Thursday hearing chaired by Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Chairman Jeff Denham (R-CA).

The hearing, entitled “Amtrak’s Fiscal Year 2014 Budget: The Starting Point for Reauthorization," is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will examine Amtrak’s Fiscal Year 2014 grant request: $373 million for operations and $2.27 billion for its capital program. The Subcommittee will also explore how Amtrak’s budget request relates to the rail service’s on-going reorganization and the upcoming reauthorization of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act (PRIIA) - one the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s legislative priorities this year.

Witnesses invited to testify at the hearing:

* Joseph H. Boardman, President and CEO, Amtrak

* Joseph C. Szabo, Administrator, Federal Railroad Administration

More information about the hearing, including testimony, additional background information, and link to live webcast, will be posted here as it becomes available.
