The following press release was published by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on May 13, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Denham (R-CA) released the following joint statement on last night’s Amtrak derailment near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

“We are saddened by the tragic accident last night on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor in Philadelphia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families and friends. We are also grateful and appreciative to those first responders and Good Samaritans who helped the injured. Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Railroad Administration are on the scene, and while we don’t yet know many details, we need to know how this happened and ensure the safety of the system and the millions of Americans who rely on the Northeast Corridor."
