The Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials will hold a hearing next week to examine challenges and opportunities related to intercity passenger rail service in the United States, with witnesses to testify on behalf of the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, and several passenger rail initiatives in California, Florida, and the New York City metropolitan area.
Among the issues likely to be discussed at this hearing are whether the federal government is making the most of its investments in passenger rail, how funds provided under the 2009 stimulus legislation have been used and what has been accomplished, the private sector’s investments in developing high-speed rail service, and Amtrak’s rehabilitation work at New York’s Penn Station.
This hearing of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, chaired by U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), is entitled, “Building a 21st Century Infrastructure for America: Challenges and Opportunities for Intercity Passenger Rail Service." The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017, in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
