MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Lyn Purdy, 43, Beloit, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to four years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine in Rock County. Purdy pleaded guilty to this charge on March 16, 2016.
Between June and July 2015, a confidential informant working with law enforcement officers purchased methamphetamine from Purdy and co-defendant Jonathan Barrera-Gomez on six occasions, with many of the sales occurring at Purdy’s residence in Beloit. The total amount purchased was over 230 grams.
Co-defendant Barrera-Gomez also pleaded guilty, and on March 29, 2016, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.
The charges against Purdy and Barrera-Gomez are the result of an investigation conducted by G-ROC, a task force formed through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Violent Crime Initiative, to address gang and drug-related violence in Rock County through the coordination of investigations among local and federal law enforcement agencies. Its members include the FBI; Rock County Sheriff’s Office; Rock County District Attorney’s Office; Beloit Police Department; Drug Enforcement Administration; and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
