SYRACUSE, NEW YORK - Vantroy Nelson, 36, of Watertown, New York, was sentenced yesterday to serve forty-two 42 months (3 ½ years) in prison following his guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Ashan M. Benedict, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Division, United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The charges stemmed from an incident on Dec. 21, 2013 where Nelson fired a shotgun from the back porch of a residence in the city of Watertown, New York. Nelson was also ordered to serve three (3) years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
This case was investigated by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the City of Watertown (New York) Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicolas Commandeur.
