MADISON, WIS. -- Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that John R. Clark, 41, Superior, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to a total of 54 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm while on federal supervision, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Clark was on supervised release for a federal felony conviction, and possessed a firearm during that time. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and pled guilty to that charge in February.
Judge Peterson revoked Clark’s supervision and sentenced him to 30 months for violating the terms of his supervision, and then sentenced him to an additional 24 months for the new felony conviction of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Clark previously had been convicted of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine in the Western District of Wisconsin on Nov. 28, 2003, and was sentenced to 188 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Clark began his federal supervision on May 18, 2014 following his time in prison.
Between June and Sept. 28, 2016, while on supervised release for his federal drug conviction, Clark possessed a Springfield Armory 9mm caliber handgun. The firearm was found during a search of Clark’s residence in Superior on Sept. 28, 2016. The search was conducted by his federal probation officer, with the assistance of the Superior Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation later revealed that Clark purchased the firearm from a private party in Janesville, Wis., in June 2016.
The charge against Clark was the result of an investigation conducted by the Superior Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter M. Jarosz. #
