Volunteer Event at the Klamath Hills Recreation Area

On Saturday, April 2, 2022, the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLMs) Klamath Falls Field Office is hosting a Volunteer Event at the Klamath Hills Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers will meet at the Klamath Hill Recreation Area trailhead at 10 a.m. The trailhead is approximately 6.5 miles southeast of Midland; take Highway 97 south, turn left (east) on Cross Road, then right (south) on Lower Klamath Lake Road.

The event will focus on area cleanup and restoration by planting drought-tolerant native plants around the new information kiosk and trailhead. Bring lunch, water, hat, gloves, eye protection, camera, and wear sturdy shoes. Long sleeves and pants are suggested. Tools and light refreshments will be provided.

Please send an email to kjohnston@blm.gov with your daytime phone number if you are interested. There will be a safety talk at the trailhead for all participants at 10 a.m.

This volunteer event is the perfect hands-on opportunity to experience what the nation’s public lands have to offer. Everyone is welcome to help restore, beautify, and improve the outdoor spaces and recreation areas we all benefit from and enjoy.

Klamath Hills Recreation Area is a unique and peaceful trail just outside of Klamath Falls for viewing birds, including eagles, quail and chukars, and various wildlife species, including mule deer, pronghorn antelope, squirrels, jackrabbits, and coyotes. The open, mountain big sagebrush habitat is intermixed with western juniper and provides scenic views of Mount Shasta further up the trail.
