During his March 1 State of the Union address, President Joe Biden announced his plans to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations as well as his plans to replace poisonous water pipes and supplies to ensure every American will have clean drinking water.
Biden stated his intentions to create a national network of 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations. As of Jan. 13, the U.S. had nearly 113,600 charging outlets for electric vehicles. California is responsible for most of these charging stations, with almost 41,300 public and private outlets.
A portion of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is allotted to improve the safety of the nation's water supply. According to the Environmental Protection Agency the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is the largest investment in water the federal government has ever made.
While it wasn't explicitly mentioned during the State of the Union, Biden's clean energy and clean water plans are reportedly part of his Build Back Better bill, which was announced in October 2021. Another component of the bill is tax credits for clean energy initiatives. Despite the Democrats having majority control, swing votes have continually stalled the bill. One notable opponent is Joe Manchin, who has cited inflation concerns as his reason for fighting the bill.
