Biden announces plans to increase clean energy, lower electric vehicle prices

In his March 1 State of the Union address, President Joe Biden announced changes he wants to make to combat climate change and cut energy costs for American families.

His goals include taking steps for homes to be more energy efficient, to double clean energy production and to lower the price of electric vehicles.

“Cut energy costs for families an average of $500 a year by combatting climate change," Biden said in his address. "Let’s provide investments and tax credits to weatherize your homes and businesses to be energy efficient and you get a tax credit. Double America’s clean energy production in solar, wind and so much more. Lower the price of electric vehicles, saving you another $80 a month because you’ll never have to pay at the gas pump again.”

The president seeks to reduce costs for consumers by making certain household and environmental changes. Biden claimed that by lowering the cost of electric vehicles, Americans will save as purchasing gasoline will no longer be a necessity.

The clean energy and climate-friendly plans Biden spoke about are all key aspects of his Build Back Better bill, which has received mixed reviews across lawmakers. Sen. Joe Manchin announced late last year that he did not support Biden's Build Back Better proposal. Since then, he has continued to doubt the bill in light of inflation concerns, as reported by The Hill.
