A pre-release webinar is set for March 14 to provide an overview of 1950 Census records that will be released April 1 by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The webinar will highlight statistics from the 1950 Census, the context in which the statistics were obtained, as well as how to access the data when it is released, according to a March 7 USCB release.
“The webinar will highlight statistics from the 1950 Census, provide historical context to how the 1950 Census was conducted and provide information from the National Archives and Records Administration on how to access these records when they become available to the public and what resources are available now,” the Census Bureau stated.
Congress in 1978 voted to not release Census records until the passage of 72 years from the date of that census, according to the National Archives website. This is done to protect confidentiality and provides balance with the need for public release, the site states.
The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and an online presentation, the USCB stated. Attendees do not need to call in to hear the webinar audio. Accredited media members will be given priority for questions. Attendees are encouraged to dial in 15-30 minutes early to allow time for registration.
A question-and-answer session with experts for media, stakeholders and partners will follow the webinar, the USCB release stated.
