The U.S. Department of State reported the country strongly condemned missile strikes by Iran on Erbil, Iraq, March 12.

The U.S. remains committed to holding Iran accountable by working with the Iraqi government and other nations in the region, Ned Price, State Department spokesperson, said in a March 13 statement on the DOS website.

“Iran must immediately cease its attacks, respect Iraqi sovereignty and halt its interference in Iraq’s internal affairs,” Price said. “The United States stands with our Iraqi partners, including in the Kurdistan Region, and will help our partners in the region defend themselves.”

No American personnel were injured nor were American facilities damaged in the attack, according to the DOS release. State Department officials also said no evidence was found that indicated the U.S. was the intended target of the attack.
