WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) released the following statement regarding the $1.1 trillion spending bill signed into law by President Obama today:

“In his first week in office, President Obama called for an ‘unprecedented effort to root our waste, inefficiency, and unnecessary spending in our government…’

This promise of transparency must be met with more than just rhetoric - it must be exercised in application.

“The federal bureaucracy is now being asked to absorb hundreds of billions of dollars and the potential for waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement is something we must be diligent in preventing and addressing.

“It’s always easy to be reckless and careless with other people’s money, but when that money belongs to the American taxpayers - we have an obligation to utilize every means necessary to ensure that every dollar that is spent goes towards the stated purpose of creating jobs and stimulating our economy."
