What About the Next AIG?

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Feb. 17, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) released the following statement today regarding AIG:

“The egregious actions of AIG underscore the fact that even more taxpayer dollars are vulnerable to waste and abuse as a result of the Administration’s failure to properly track bailout and stimulus dollars. Where was this outrage and concern two weeks ago when AIG received another $30 billion?

“You can get all the bonuses back and it won’t change the fact that there is no mechanism in place to prevent this from happening again. Democrats have it backwards - they wait for a problem to arise then, when the money is already spent, they decide to try and take action. Our outraged President and this Congress need to take a look in the mirror when looking for someone to blame in this debacle."
