Memphis, TN - Tyrone Shepard was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, the Multi-Agency Gang Unit and the Shelby County Fugitive Apprehension Team for murder and a variety of other violent crimes yesterday afternoon.
On Christmas Eve 2018 Juan Garcia and Jose Juarez were in their apartment in Memphis when a suspect believed to be Tyrone Shepard attempted to rob them. Garcia was shot and killed. Jaurez was shot and injured.
Task force investigators along with the Multi-Agency Gang Unit detectives and the Shelby County Fugitive Apprehension Team went to the 1200 block of Chickamauga in an effort to locate the fugitive. The fugitive was found hiding behind a wall. There was a handgun found near his person.
Shepard was taken to the Shelby County Jail without incident. He will face charges of Murder, Aggravated Assault, Escape (from a juvenile detention center in April 2018), Carjacking, Especially Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Robbery.
The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force with divisions in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Western Tennessee Division of the GCRFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies, Memphis Police Officers, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, BATF, and the Tennessee Department of Corrections Special Agents. The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
