Concord, NH - "Fugitive of the Week," Sasha Rand, 33, was tracked down yesterday, hiding out in West Baldwin Maine. Rand was wanted on an outstanding federal arrest warrant issued out of the US District Court for the District of New Hampshire. The warrant was for bail violations on an underlying offense of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled drug. Rand, along with her husband, Derek Rand were originally arrested on these offenses in December, and Sasha Rand was released on bail after a court hearing.
As part of this investigation, Sasha Rand had been featured as the “Fugitive of the Week" on February 13th. This feature was aired on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, The Rochester Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of the Week" has been a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007.
Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week" is distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers.
Yesterday, members of the US Marshals - NH Joint Fugitive Task Force, with the assistance of the Maine State Police went to a residence on Chase Road in West Baldwin, Maine. At this residence, Sasha Rand was located hiding in a closet and arrested without further incident. Also, during the search of the residence, another fugitive being sought by the NH Joint Fugitive Task Force was located and arrested. Ashley Cameron, 36, was wanted by the Carroll County (NH) Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for probation violations, stemming from her original conviction and sentence for drug offenses. Ms. Cameron was also found hiding in another closet inside the Chase Road residence.
Although, the “Fugitive of the Week" feature produced numerous valuable tips on the location of Sasha Rand, it was the hard work of investigators from countless federal, state, and local agencies that ultimately developed the information leading yesterday’s arrest.
Rand was transported to the Strafford County Jail, where she was held on behalf of the US Marshals pending her initial court appearance in Concord later today. Custody of Ashley Cameron was transferred to the Maine State Police, so she could be charged as a fugitive from justice based on her outstanding Carroll County arrest warrant. Cameron will be held at the Cumberland County Jail pending her court appearance today. Cameron will likely be detained until she is returned to New Hampshire to face her probation violation charges in the Carroll County Superior Court.
U.S. Marshal Nick Willard said, “This arrest is another example of the outstanding interstate cooperation between law enforcement agencies to capture fugitives."
Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 7,475 arrests (Updated as of 12/10/2018). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
