Topeka, KS - On May 25, 2019, the Topeka Police Department responded to Charley’s Liquor in reference to a shooting that had just occurred. Darton Andrew Fields II, age 34, was discovered lying in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Fields was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. The Topeka Police Department identified Kristopher Klesath, age 29, as their primary suspect.
On May 27, 2019 the Topeka Police department requested the assistance of the Kansas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force (KFATF) in locating and apprehending Klesath. On May 28, 2019 the KFATF began conducting surveillance and observed Klesath at a residence in Topeka, KS. The residence was surrounded and Klesath was ordered to surrender. Klesath was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was obtained, and a loaded.40 caliber handgun was discovered in a bedroom. Klesath was arrested on a State of Kansas Parole warrant and charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated robbery, and felon in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Fugitive Task Force is comprised of various law enforcement agencies to include the United States Marshals Service, ICE, the Kansas Department of Corrections, and the Topeka Police Department.
