U.S. Marshals Arrest Murder Suspect in Middletown

Middletown, OH - During the early afternoon hours of Aug. 27, 2019, the U.S. Marshals arrested fugitive Juan Mendez on an outstanding murder warrant from Harris County in Houston, Texas.

Mendez allegedly took part in a robbery that resulted in the death of a male victim within Harris County, Texas. Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators filed an arrest warrant for Mendez and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force developed information that Mendez was in Middletown, OH, and contacted the U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) in Cincinnati. SOFAST quickly located Mendez near the 300 block of Moore Street and arrested Mendez without incident.Mendez is currently in custody at the Butler County Jail awaiting extradition back to Texas.

Cincinnati’s SOFAST is a fugitive focused, U.S. Marshals Service-led task force consisting of local, state, and federal authorities including the Adult Parole Authority, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Butler County Probation Office, Cincinnati Police Department, Colerain Township Police Department, Department of Homeland Security/ Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Golf Manor Police Department, Harrison Police Department, Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

U.S. Marshals are the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and capture more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement agencies combined.
