Kansas City, MO - United States Marshal Mark S. James announced today the arrest of attempted homicide suspect Kenneth Mitchell of Los Angeles County, California in Kansas City.
On Aug. 28, 2015, Kenneth Mitchell reportedly drove by a condo complex located on the 28000 block of Sarabande Lane in Canyon Country, Santa Clarita and fired a handgun at a male adult victim standing near a residence, striking him in the leg. The victim survived and Mitchell would later be charged in December 2015 with attempted murder. Mitchell was on the run ever since and his whereabouts were unknown.
In July 2019, LA County Sheriff’s Office investigators made renewed attempts at locating Mitchell and requested help from the public on the whereabouts of Mitchell. Investigators requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals and information was developed that Mitchell may have fled to Kansas City. The Marshals Service task force in Kansas City began a local investigation during the 1st week of September 2019 and believed Mitchell had recently stayed at a local motel. Investigators discovered a vehicle from security camera footage and would soon find that vehicle in the area of east 10th and White Avenue in Kansas City. The task force observed Mitchell standing next to the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. He was lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center and awaits extradition back to California to face the charges.
The U.S. Marshals Midwest Violent Fugitive Task Force-Kansas City division, operates in conjunction with members of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, Independence Missouri Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and other federal law enforcement partners. The task force objectives are to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug offenses, sex offenders and other serious felonies. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 67 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
