Scranton, PA - Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Jeremy John Gittens, a 36-year old Kingston man.
On March 4, 2020, the Wilkes-Barre Police Department investigated a shooting in the first block of Covell Street in which two victims were struck and one died. As a resultof the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Gittens with Criminal Homicide and lesser included offenses. Attempts to find Gittens in Wilkes-Barre were unsuccessful and the case was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) FugitiveTask Force.
Today, at about 6 a.m., members of the task force checked a home in the first block of 101st Avenue, Queens, New York and arrested Gittens without incident. He was turned over to the New York Police Department Central Booking Unit to await extraditionto Pennsylvania.
United States Marshal Pane stated, “It’s the Marshals Services’ duty to ensure that those charged with violent crimes have their day in court. It is my sincere hope that thevictim’s family will find some measure of comfort knowing the suspect will face justice."
The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; thePennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the Wilkes-Barre Police Department; the Kingston Police Department; the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office; and, the Scranton Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation.
