Dear Mr. Chairman:
I am writing to request that you invite Daniel Tangherlini, the new Acting Administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA), to testify at the Committee’s hearing on April 16, 2012, relating to the GSA Inspector General’s findings of waste and misconduct in connection with the 2010 Western Regions Conference.
Upon assuming his post, Mr. Tangherlini delivered a video message to GSA employees and the public on April 10, 2012, in which he acknowledged serious violations and deficient judgment associated with the conference. He also outlined a number of steps necessary to address the findings in the Inspector General’s report.
I believe it is important that Mr. Tangherlini be given an opportunity to testify at the hearing about reforms that have been implemented to date, as well as those still to be put in place, in order to prevent this type of gross abuse of taxpayer funds from happening again. I have spoken with Mr. Tangherlini, and he is willing and able to appear.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Elijah E. Cummings
