Yuma, AZ - On Feb. 17, 2022, Jason Douglas Lowry was captured by members of the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force, with the assistance of the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office, on charges of rape of a minor and possession of child pornography.
“Of all the dangerous fugitives that the U.S. Marshals arrest, the individuals who are charged with the rape of minors and engaged in child pornography, are especially important to us," said United States Marshal, David Gonzales.
In October of 2020, the Circuit Court for Washington County in Maryland issued an arrest warrant for Jason Douglas Lowry for failing to appear to face 11 charges of possession and distribution of child pornography. Additionally, it is alleged that in July of 2021, Lowry committed 2nd degree rape, 3rd and 4th degree sex offenses and assault of a six-year-old girl who was known to him. Later that year, the District Court for Washington County in Maryland indicted Lowry and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force lead the investigation, but it was learned shortly after, that Lowry had fled Maryland to seek refuge in Bouse, AZ, a small town located in a remote area east of Parker. In light of this information, the U.S. Marshals Service in Yuma was asked to assist with locating and arresting Lowry.
After an extensive investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force along with members of the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office, located Lowry at a residence in Bouse, AZ. During his flight from justice, Lowry had befriended a kind gentleman who took Lowry in and gave him shelter and employment, unaware he was assisting a child predator. Lowry was arrested by Deputy U.S. Marshals without incident and was booked in to the La Paz County Jail awaiting extradition to Maryland to face charges.
The Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force is a U.S. Marshals Service led multi-jurisdictional fugitive apprehension unit responsible for more than 2,157 arrests in the last year. The task force is comprised of 22 agencies bringing together the resources of federal, state and local law enforcement to locate and arrest the community’s most violent offenders and sexual predators.
