Joint Subcommittee Hearing to Examine Problems with ObamaCare State Exchanges

WASHINGTON - Top officials from six state health insurance exchanges will testify Thursday, April 3rd in a House Oversight and Government Reform joint subcommittee hearing entitled, “Examining ObamaCare’s Problem-Filled State Exchanges." This will be a joint hearing by the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and the Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care and Entitlements, chaired by Rep. James Lankford (R-OK).

To date, the federal government has spent $4.7 billion of taxpayer funds to establish health insurance exchanges under ObamaCare, yet some state websites have experienced major functionality issues and low enrollment numbers. The hearing will examine the failures of the state exchanges and the implications for taxpayers and consumers, as well an example of a state that has been able to navigate its exchange launch better. The hearing will also examine concerns that these exchanges will not be financially sustainable into 2015, as required by law. The six exchanges represented are California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Oregon.
