Washington, D.C. -This week, the Committee on Oversight and Reform will hold two hearings to hold the Administration accountable for its actions related to violations of the law and its child separation policies.
In addition, the House plans to vote to hold Secretary Wilbur Ross and Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with bipartisan Committee subpoenas for documents relating to the pretext for adding the citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
Democrats Hold Administration Accountable for Hatch Act Violations
On Monday, the Committee is scheduled to convene a hearing to examine the independent Office of Special Counsel’s findings that Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway repeatedly violated the Hatch Act, the agency’s recommendation that Conway be terminated, and Conway’s compliance with other federal ethics laws.
The Committee first invited Conway to testify at a hearing on June 26, but she refused to appear. The Committee voted to issue a subpoena to compel Conway’s testimony at the present hearing.

Democrats Hold Administration Accountable for Stonewalling Census Investigation
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas issued as part of the Committee’s investigation into the Trump Administration’s pretext for adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.
Since the Committee issued bipartisan subpoenas on April 2, 2019, the Departments of Justice and Commerce have refused to produce key unredacted documents identified by the Committee, made no commitments to produce these key documents, and made no counter-offers relating to those key documents.
Democrats Hold Administration Accountable for Inhumane Deterrence Policies
On Thursday, the Committee will hold a hearing with Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan. Mr. McAleenan previously served as Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, where he helped implement the Trump Administration’s child separation policy.
The Committee will examine troubling new revelations, including reports of unaccompanied children in overcrowded and filthy conditions at Clint, Texas, and other facilities; reports that current and former Border Patrol agents created a racist, sexist, and xenophobic Facebook group; and a report issued by the DHS Inspector General warning of “dangerous overcrowding" and “prolonged detention of children."
