Washington, D.C. -In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day-and 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau-Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, will hold a hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, entitled, “75 Years After the Holocaust: The Ongoing Battle Against Hate."
This is the latest hearing in a series being held by the Committee during the 116th Congress to combat bigotry, discrimination, and hate of all kinds.

* On Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, the world will come together to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Three quarters of a century after the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we remember the Holocaust in order to help combat bigotry, hate, and violence of all kinds today.
* There has been a sinister increase in hate crimes not only against the American Jewish community, but also against African-Americans, Muslims, immigrants, and others.
* The Oversight Committee will continue its ongoing investigation into the threat of hate crimes and white supremacy in the coming weeks and months, including the Trump Administration’s shameful role in fomenting division and discrimination.
BACKGROUND ON SERIES OF HEARINGS:
* The Committee has been holding a series of hearings over the past year through its Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties led by Chairman Jamie Raskin.
* These have included hearings on May 15, 2019, on efforts to collect accurate statistics and combat white supremacist hate crimes and domestic terror; on June 4, 2019, on the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security to combat white supremacist extremist violence; and on Sept. 20, 2019, on the increasingly global and transnational terrorist threat to U.S. national security of white supremacist extremism.
* The Subcommittee will hold another hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, on efforts to combat global religious persecution.
* The Committee and Subcommittee are also planning additional hearings, including hearings on voter suppression in minority communities, Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination, anti-immigrant rhetoric and actions, and issues facing LGBTQ individuals.
