Washington, D.C. -Today, the House of Representatives passed several critical, good government bills to improve and clarify current federal government operations. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement:
“Now more than ever, the federal government must be a leader in transparency, technology, and innovation, and I am pleased we have passed these critical bills to help achieve this shared goal. I especially want to thank Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Congressmen Mike Quigley, Jerry McNerney, Ro Khanna, and Senator Gary Peters for their leadership in crafting critical legislation to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of federal government operations."
The following bills passed the House under suspension:
H.R. 1668 - IoT Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020, authored by Oversight Committee Member Rep. Robin Kelly, will require enhanced levels of cyber security for federally procured Internet of Things devices and federal information systems.
S. 2193 - CHARGE Act, authored by Senator Gary Peters, will require the General Services Administration to issue clarifying guidance that Federal employees authorized to use a charge card to refuel a motor vehicle may also use their charge card to pay for the charging of electric motor vehicles. Oversight Committee Member Rep. Ro Khanna wrote the companion House Bill.
H.R. 4894 - Congressional Budget Justification Transparency Act of 2020, authored by Rep. Mike Quigley, will require congressional budget justifications to be posted online in a centralized, searchable database, as well as on the agency’s website, starting with the second fiscal year after enactment. The bill also would require the Office of Management and Budget to maintain and regularly update a public list of agencies expected to submit congressional budget justifications, the date they are submitted to Congress, and when they are posted online.
H.R. 2575 - AI in Government Act of 2020, authored by Rep. Jerry McNerney, will codify the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE) within the General Services Administration (GSA) to promote the innovative use and acquisition of artificial intelligence in the federal government and would improve cohesion and competency pertaining to federal AI adoption and use.
