Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued this statement following the announcement that the Treasury Department will soon begin releasing $350 billion of critical funding for states and localities that was passed by Congress in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021:

“Democrats on the Oversight Committee heeded urgent calls for assistance from hundreds of governors, mayors, and local leaders when we passed $350 billion in flexible relief funds for states, localities, Tribes, and territories in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

“Today’s launch of the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds marks the next step along the road to recovery, providing the tools our communities need for resilience, healing, and prosperity. These funds will be made available for a wide range of community needs, including getting vaccine shots in arms, upgrading school safety, providing mental health services, helping struggling families and small businesses, and supporting an equitable recovery for our hardest-hit populations. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Biden-Harris Administration and our state and local partners as these relief dollars are put into action to benefit all Americans."
