Chairwoman Maloney’s Statement on Supreme Court Decision Allowing Texas 6-Week Abortion Ban to Remain in Effect

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Dec. 10, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision allowing Texas’ six-week abortion ban (S.B. 8) to remain in effect:

“The anti-abortion Supreme Court continues to prove it will not protect our reproductive rights against the country’s most extreme and unconstitutional attacks on abortion access, like S.B. 8. The Supreme Court is putting the health of Texans and all Americans on the line, especially people with lower incomes and people of color who are disproportionately targeted by these draconian restrictions. Today's ruling underscores the urgent need for the Senate to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify the right to abortion for all people."
