“I offer my congratulations to Dr. Osama El Lissy on his appointment as Secretary of The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). I know the entire team at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) joins me in wishing him well as he takes on this new challenge. Our former colleague is well positioned to carry forth the IPPC mission using the skills he has honed working in plant health protection for decades.
We have seen what Dr. Osama El Lissy can accomplish working with government officials, industry stakeholders, research scientists and subject matter experts throughout his career at APHIS. He joined us from private industry to work on cotton pests and citrus health programs then rose to a leadership role developing, implementing and managing our comprehensive plant health safeguarding program while ensuring safe agricultural trade internationally. Now, he takes his advocacy for plant health to the IPPC and, we are sure, will bring the same decisiveness, expertise, collaborative mindset and dedication to his new role.”
