House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement about the government spending bills that passed the House of Representatives today.
“I voted in support of the security package that funds border security, America’s law enforcement, and our troops, including our airmen and women at Fairchild Air Force Base. This also includes important security aid for the freedom-loving people of Ukraine. We must continue to unite around our shared values of liberty and democracy in the face of Vladimir Putin and his evil attacks that are destroying innocent people’s lives and livelihoods. Freedom must prevail.
“The non-security package includes a reckless amount of spending. It fails to meet the urgent need to flip the switch to restore America’s energy dominance. Rather than fund the Democrat’s radical rush-to-green agenda, America should be leading to produce more oil and natural gas to help our allies, counter Putin, and lower energy costs here at home. We should be saying ‘yes’ to America’s global leadership and innovation with an all-the-above strategy to reduce emissions and produce clean, affordable, and reliable energy for the world.
“This package also continues to fund President Joe Biden’s authoritarian vaccine mandates on our health care workforce. It also includes more spending for the NIH, which is still refusing to comply with congressional oversight and our investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There isn’t enough accountability built into this spending bill to justify its enormous price tag. It will make the inflation and energy crises created by the Biden administration even worse.”
