The United States is continuing to send humanitarian assistance to Ukraine by providing more than $186 million in support of more than 3 million refugees and internally displaced persons, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said March 15.
The U.S. demands humanitarian aid needs to be delivered with no interference, according to the State Department news release. Also, humanitarian workers need to have a safe way to get assistance to where it is most needed.
"The United States is the largest single-country donor of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including providing nearly $293 million in humanitarian assistance both inside Ukraine and in the region since late February,” Blinken said. “Our funding to date amounts to nearly $644 million to vulnerable communities in the region since Russia first invaded Ukraine eight years ago.”
Blinken said the U.S. is calling for Russia to end its war with Ukraine. He also said the U.S. wants Russia to allow people to leave the cities where they are trapped, according to the State Department.
The additional funding to assist refugees supports providing food, water, shelter, emergency health care and protection using help from international and nongovernmental partners. The funds will help victims of this conflict keep in touch with family members and assist with family reunification when possible, Blinken said.
