Rodgers and Guthrie Statement on Two Health Bills Signed into Law

House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement after President Joe Biden signed S. 1543, the “Suicide Training and Awareness Nationally Delivered for Universal Prevention (STANDUP) Act of 2021,” and S. 1662, the “Supporting the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration Act” into law.

“Today, the president signed two strong bipartisan bills into law led by members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

“The STANDUP Act led by Congressman Gus Bilirakis will facilitate suicide prevention training for students and young Americans. This is especially critical after government-enforced COVID-19 school shutdowns have contributed to a rise in mental health emergencies among our youth, especially teen girls. The Supporting the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration Act led by Congressman Richard Hudson will help accelerate future biomedical innovations in America.

“We thank our colleagues for their hard work on these solutions that will help build a healthier future in America.”
